Platform Screen Door Safety Detection
In rail transit systems, through-beam photoelectric sensors are widely used for platform screen door (PSD) safety detection. Because a gap exists between the train and the screen door, there is a risk of passengers or objects becoming trapped. To prevent this, sensor pairs are installed on both sides of the door. When a passenger or object enters the gap and interrupts the light beam, the sensor detects it instantly and triggers an alarm or a door-control mechanism, ensuring passenger safety.

Intelligent Traffic Signal Control
In intelligent traffic signal control systems, through-beam photoelectric sensors can be used to detect the movement of vehicles and pedestrians. By monitoring traffic flow, the system adjusts signal timing in real time to optimize traffic and reduce congestion and waiting time. While this application relies more heavily on other sensing technologies such as radar or video, through-beam photoelectric sensors provide valuable complementary data in specific scenarios — for example, at low-speed zones, dedicated lanes, and locations where reliable presence detection is required regardless of lighting or weather conditions.
